Chris Andrews begins his feature debut, Bring Them Down, with a brief yet unsettling prologue that establishes the tone for the unfolding narrative. Years prior to taking over the family sheep farm due to his father's (Colm Meaney) declining health, Michael (Abbott) was involved in a car accident with his girlfriend Caroline (Nora-Jane Noone) and his mother. The incident was caused by Michael's rage, triggered by his mother's announcement of her intention to divorce his father. This rage-fueled accident not only claimed his mother's life but also ended his relationship with Caroline, who subsequently married his neighbor and rival, Gary (Paul Ready), with whom she had a son, Jack (Barry Keoghan).
Now, isolated in the management of his mountain sheep, with only the oppressive presence of his controlling, housebound father for company, Michael has come to view his flock as his children and his sheepdog as his sole companion. Meanwhile, Caroline, who still carries the emotional scars from that tragic accident, along with her resentful husband Gary and their rebellious son Jack, run a farm that has gradually devolved into a questionable business venture as Gary struggles with mounting debt. The contrasting personalities of Gary and Michael lead to a complete lack of communication between them, despite their farms being in close proximity. However, the underlying tension, distrust, and resentment are on the verge of erupting when Jack steals a pair of valuable rams from Michael's herd. Unbeknownst to Jack, this act will trigger a series of events that will cause relationships to fracture and circumstances to spiral out of control, resulting in devastating consequences for everyone involved.
